DSU Women fall at NDNU in overtime Saturday, 92-84

Taylor Moeaki scores career-high 24 points in the loss

The Dixie State women's basketball team dropped a 92-84 overtime decision to Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday inside Gleason Gymnasium in Belmont, California.

The Trailblazers (7-9, 3-6 PacWest) trailed 71-67 with less than two minutes remaining in regulation, but tied the game at 71-71 with layups by Gabrielle Cabanero (Las Vegas, Nev./Valley HS) and Taylor Moeaki (American Fork, Utah/American Fork HS). NDNU answered with three consecutive free throws, but Moeaki drilled a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game at 75-75 and send the game to the extra session.

Dixie State scored first in overtime when Moeaki converted a layup to give DSU a 77-75 lead. The teams traded baskets over the next three minutes until Matti Ventling (Las Vegas, Nev./Las Vegas HS) buried a triple to stake the Trailblazers to an 84-82 advantage with 1:29 remaining. But the visitors would not score again. The Argonauts closed the game on a 10-0 run, including eight free throws, to clinch the victory.

Dixie State shot a season-high 46 percent (33-of-71) from the field, 44 percent (11-of-25) from 3-point range, and 43 percent (7-of-16) from the free throw line. Moeaki led three players in double figures with a career-high 24 points to go with eight assists, four rebounds, and four steals. Ventling matched her career-high scoring mark with 21 points, including five 3-pointers. Kristin Baldwin (Thatcher, Ariz./Thatcher HS) logged her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The Trailblazers continue their four-game trip at Holy Names in Oakland on Monday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. Pacific Time (3 p.m. MT).
