Dixie State could not recover from a cold offensive start as the Trailblazers fell at Hawai'i Pacific, 70-56, Monday afternoon in Honolulu.
DSU (4-21/4-15 PacWest) missed 19 of its 23 first half shots and trailed 38-14 at the halftime break. The Trailblazers offense shot nearly 52 percent in the second half, and outscored the Sharks by 12 points over the third and fourth quarters, but the deficit proved to be too much to overcome as DSU came up short in the final game of the team's three-game Hawaiian road swing.
Sophomore guard
Tramina Jordan (Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial HS) led all scorers with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including a perfect 3-of-3 from the perimeter, while freshman
Ali Franks (Redding, Calif./Enterprise HS) poured in 16 points and junior guard
Gabrielle Cabanero (Las Vegas, Nev./Valley HS) chipped in 10 points off the bench.
Dixie State finished 18-of-50 (.360) from the field, including 6-of-15 (.400) from beyond the arc, and 14-of-21 (.667) at the foul line.
Brianne Yasukochi and VeAnne Navarro paced four Sharks in double figures with 16 points apiece. HPU shot 41.4 percent (29-of-70) from the floor and outrebounded the Trailblazers by a 39-36 count.
Dixie State will wrap up the 2016-17 regular season at home this Saturday night, Feb. 25, as the Trailblazers welcome Holy Names to the Burns Arena. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. The game will also serve as "Senior Night" as DSU seniors
Cassidy Carrillo (La Mirada, Calif./St. Paul HS) and
Hannah Roberts (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley HS) will be honored prior to tip-off.
