Men’s Soccer Turned Back by No. 6 Colorado Mines Friday, 3-0

Dixie State opened the 2016 regular season on the losing end of a 3-0 result at No.6 Colorado School of Mines Friday night in Golden, Colo.

The Orediggers broke open a scoreless match midway through the first half with two goals in the span of about one minute to vault out to a 2-0 lead. Ashi Geberkidane tallied the first CSM goal off a cross from the right side by Nikolaus Grotz at the 25:43 mark, followed by a David Boldt goal late in the 27th-minute off a deflection. CSM then tacked on an insurance goal near the end of the 80th-minute to put the match away.

CSM outshot DSU 21-13, including a 10-6 edge on frame. Sophomore midfielder Gabby Medina (Mesquite, Nev./Virgin Valley HS) attempted a team-high three shots, while six different Trailblazers accounted for DSU's shots on goal. Senior netminder Bradley Trella (Chandler, Ariz./Chandler HS) was credited with seven saves in a losing effort.

Dixie State returns to action Sunday with a match at Metropolitan State of Denver beginning at 11 a.m. (MT).
