Dixie State opened the 2016 regular season on the losing end of a 3-0 result at No.6 Colorado School of Mines Friday night in Golden, Colo.
The Orediggers broke open a scoreless match midway through the first half with two goals in the span of about one minute to vault out to a 2-0 lead. Ashi Geberkidane tallied the first CSM goal off a cross from the right side by Nikolaus Grotz at the 25:43 mark, followed by a David Boldt goal late in the 27
th-minute off a deflection. CSM then tacked on an insurance goal near the end of the 80
th-minute to put the match away.
CSM outshot DSU 21-13, including a 10-6 edge on frame. Sophomore midfielder
Gabby Medina (Mesquite, Nev./Virgin Valley HS) attempted a team-high three shots, while six different Trailblazers accounted for DSU's shots on goal. Senior netminder
Bradley Trella (Chandler, Ariz./Chandler HS) was credited with seven saves in a losing effort.
Dixie State returns to action Sunday with a match at Metropolitan State of Denver beginning at 11 a.m. (MT).
