Women's Soccer Outlasts NDNU Monday, 2-1

Trailblazers win for eighth time in nine matches to keep PacWest title hopes alive

Dixie State returned to the win column Monday afternoon after posting a hard-fought 2-1 result over Notre Dame de Namur at Legend Solar Stadium.

The Trailblazers (10-6-0/8-3-0 PacWest) got on the board midway through the 24th-minute when senior Alexis Torres (Tucson, Ariz./Palo Verde HS) took a two-pass combination from freshman Kamie Hunter (Hooper, Utah/Fremont HS) and senior Megan Spencer (Provo, Utah/Springville HS) to notch her fourth goal of the season just inside the left post to spot DSU a one-goal advantage.

NDNU (5-9-2/3-7-1 PacWest) netted the equalizer with 16 minutes to play in regulation when Susan Whitney picked off a Trailblazer clear ball and tucked home a shot from 10-yards out to knot the score at 1-1.

DSU senior forward Erica Gonzalez (Avondale, Ariz./Westview HS) gave the Trailblazers the lead right back at 2-1 with 5:08 to play when she went top-shelf on a rocket shot from 30-yards out.

The Argonauts put together one last push in the final minute when Samantha Sanchez booted a corner-kick feed to Macee Broer, who fired a shot toward the goal past the drawn out DSU keeper Felicity Tarr (Tucson, Ariz./Mountain View Marana HS), but junior defender Montana Hadley (Bountiful, Utah/Viewmont HS) made an incredible stop at the goal line to deny the NDNU chance. From there Dixie State managed to run the clock down zeroes to escape with the win.

"I think we struggled a little bit today and had a hard time finding a rhythm," DSU Head Coach Kacey Bingham said. "Erica [Gonzalez] scored an amazing goal for the win and Montana [Hadley] made a crucial defensive stop in the last minute."

Dixie State outshot NDNU 11-9, including an 8-5 edge on frame. Tarr finished with three saves to pick up her fourth win in goal.

Dixie State will return to the Legend Solar Stadium pitch this Thursday night with a PacWest match vs. Concordia-Irvine beginning at 7 p.m.
