Volleyball Sweeps Away Notre Dame de Namur Friday

Trailblazers halt four-game slide in Bay Area road trip opener

Dixie State opened its three-game Bay Area road swing on a positive note as the Trailblazers posted a three-set sweep at Notre Dame de Namur Friday night in Belmont, Calif. The win snapped DSU's four-game losing skid and moved the Trailblazers to 13-8 overall, 9-4 in Pacific West Conference play.

DSU trailed just twice in the first two sets, including briefly in the opening stanza as the Argonauts (6-16/4-10 PacWest) erased an early 10-5 Trailblazer lead to take a 15-14 advantage. Dixie State quickly rebounded by outscoring NDNU 11-3 to claim the first set, 25-18, and breezed to a 14-point victory in the second frame (25-11) to bolt out to a 2-0 lead in the match. The Trailblazers led virtually the entire third set, but needed to weather a late Argonaut rally to close out the match with a 25-23 set win.

Senior outside hitter Delayne Daniel (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleaseant Grove HS) recorded her ninth-straight and 13th double-double of the year with a match-high 15 kills and 13 digs, while her first dig of the night was her 500th of her career. Sophomore OH Taylor Duryea (Logan, Utah/Sky View HS) added 14 kills and seven digs, while junior Malary Marshall (Hurricane, Utah/Hurricane HS) chipped in nine kills, as DSU finished with 51 kills and hit .301 for the match.

DSU's defense held NDNU to a .154 hitting percentage thanks to 66 total digs, including a game-high 19 digs from sophomore libero Sidney Brandon (Bountiful, Utah/Bountiful HS).

Dixie State continues its road trip Saturday in San Francisco with a match at Academy of Art at 3 p.m. (PT).
