Volleyball Outlasts BYU-Hawaii Friday Night

Trailblazers tie program record with 10-straight win and remain unbeaten in PacWest play; Frei reaches career assists milestone

Dixie State  tied a program record with its 10th-straight victory and remained unbeaten in Pacific West Conference play Friday night as the Trailblazers picked up a hard-fought five-set road triumph (25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 20-25, 15-10) at BYU-Hawaii in Laie.

Senior outside hitter Delayne Daniel (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleaseant Grove HS) posted her team-high eighth double-double of the season with 15 kills and 15 digs to lead the Trailblazers (12-4/8-0 PacWest), while sophomore OH Taylor Duryea (Logan, Utah/Sky View HS) collected 13 kills and seven digs. In addition, senior setter Kailey Frei (Orem, Utah/Timpanogos HS) recorded 43 assists on the night to become the second Trailblazer in the program's NCAA-era to amass 2,000 career assists (2,011).

Dixie State hit .186 for the match and collected 51 kills, while the Trailblazer defense held BYU-H (4-13/2-6 PacWest) to a .168 hitting percentage and forced 31 attack errors, including 13 total blocks. Senior middle blocker Lindsay Garrett (St. George, Utah/Desert Hills HS) led DSU with one solo block and eight block assists, while Frei added seven block assists, and sophomore libero Sidney Brandon (Bountiful, Utah/Bountiful HS) collected a team-high 16 digs.

DSU's current 10-game winning streak matches the program's all-time mark set in the 2014 season when Dixie State won a four-year program-best 22 matches (22-9).

The Trailblazers continue their three-match Hawaiian road swing Saturday night at Hawai'i Pacific.
