Red Storm capitalize on FPU errors in 8-2 win

Storm win ninth straight in road series opener

FRESNO, Calif. – The 17th ranked Dixie State baseball team took advantage of four Fresno Pacific errors to score seven unanswered runs en route to an 8-2 win over the Sunbirds.
 
Dixie State extended its win streak to nine game improving to 21-8 overall and 16-1 in the Pacific West.
 
The first run of the game materialized thanks to an error. Tanner Morache (Surrey, Canada/Surrey) reached second base on an outfield miscue and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Kevin Kline (Las Vegas, NV/Rancho) doubled to left to plate Morache.
 
Fresno Pacific (20-11, 8-9 PacWest) used a pair of RBI doubles against freshman starter Dylan File (St. George, UT/Desert Hills) in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead.
 
Momentum turned in the Dixie State sixth inning. Miles Bice (Henderson, NV/Coronado) led off with a single and advance to third with two productive outs. The inning extended and Bice scored when Trey Kamachi (Kapolei, HI/Kapolei) reached safely on a throwing error by the FPU shortstop. After an intentional walk, Donald Glover (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy) extended the rally with a two-run single for a 4-2 advantage.
 
Yuto Kata (Chiba, Japan/Juan Diego (Utah)) added a run-scoring single in the seventh inning while two more insurance crossed home in the ninth inning, including a sacrifice RBI fly from Kline.
 
Kline finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two runs driven in. Glover also had two hits and two runs knocked home. Drew McLaughlin (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
 
File picked up the win and improved to 4-1. The reigning PacWest Conference Pitcher of the Week pitched six innings and allowed two runs on six hits, walked two and eight strikeouts.
 
Kolton Brost (Monsa, UT/Payson) came into the game in the seventh inning and did not allow a hit to earn a three-inning save, his first of the season.
 
FPU's Wilson Ashford surrendered five runs (none earned) on six hits while fanning seven over 6.2 innings in the losing decision. Nick Pate went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a run batted in for the Sunbirds.
 
Dixie State and Fresno Pacific continues the series with a doubleheader Friday beginning at 4 p.m. Pacific (5 p.m. Mountain).
