Late comeback falls short, Storm splits with Saints

Dixie State falls 4-3 on Sunday

LACEY, Wash. – The Dixie State baseball team allowed four runs in the fifth inning and could not complete a ninth-inning comeback in a 4-3 loss to Saint Martin's at Saints Field on Sunday afternoon. The Red Storm spilt the four-game non-conference series to fall to 27-13 on the season.

Dixie State tallied the game's first run with a two-out single from Sam Hall (Ogden, UT/Bonneville). A comeback effort in the ninth inning fell one run short. Miles Bice (Henderson, NV/Coronado) and Tanner Morache (Surrey, Canada/Surrey) each knocked in a run with singles. With the tying run at second and nobody out, two strikeouts and a fly ball stymied the DSU rally.

Morache led the Storm offense, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Sam Hall (Ogden, UT/Bonneville) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a run batted in.

Porter Clayton (Idaho Falls, ID/Bonneville) took the loss for Dixie State (4-4). Clayton went 7.1 innings (his longest outing of the year) and allowed four runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out seven.

The Red Storm return to Pacific West Conference play with a road series at Azusa Pacific beginning Thursday, April 23 at 3 p.m. Pacific, 4 p.m. Mountain.
