Saints rally to walk off with series opener

Dixie State drops fourth straight game

LACEY, Wash. – Saint Martin's sophomore Kaelen Hirashiki hit a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning to give SMU a 4-3 non-conference win over Dixie State on Friday afternoon.

Donald Glover (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy) and Kevin Kline (Las Vegas, NV/Rancho) each had run-scoring doubles in the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie after Sam Hall (Ogden, UT/Bonneville) cashed in the Storm's first run with a RBI single in the second inning.

On the mound, it was a duel between DSU's freshmane Dylan File (St. George, UT/Desert Hills) and SMU's senior Zach Carter. In the end, neither factored into the decision. File matched his season high with eight strikeouts over 7.1 innings, his second longest start of the season.

Evan Parker (Ogden, UT/Bonneville) took the loss (0-2) for the Red Storm despite striking out a pair in the ninth before SMU's winning hit. Dixie State fell to 25-12 on the season.

The two teams resume the series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Pacific, 2 p.m. Mountain.
