Lancers powers past Storm twice

CBU sweeps Friday DH at Hurst

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Dixie State baseball was swept in a Pacific West Conference doubleheader on Friday by visiting California Baptist. The Storm allowed CBU to score double-digit runs in 10-1 and 11-9 games at Bruce Hurst Field.

DSU saw its 13-game winning streak snapped with the twinbill defeats, falling to 25-10 on the season and 20-3 in the PacWest.

In Friday's opener, CBU starter Adam Hofacket went the distance in holding the Storm to one run on seven hits with eight strikeouts. Donald Glover (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy) helped DSU avoid their first season shutout with a RBI single scoring Tanner Morache (Surrey, Canada/Surrey). Seven different players had hits for Dixie State.

The Lancers matched their offensive output from the series opener with 18 hits.

Porter Clayton (Idaho Falls, ID/Bonneville) took the loss on the mound for DSU and fell to 4-3 on the season. He allowed three runs in five innings with three walks and three strikeouts.

California Baptist used four extra base hits, including a three-run home run, to post an eight spot against DSU in the second inning of the nightcap. John Conquy (Las Vegas, NV/Durango) surrendered 10 runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings in taking his first loss of the year (4-1).

Jordan Dreibelbis (Las Vegas, NV/Faith Lutheran) over 2.1 innings and Jeremy Alderman (Cheney, WA/Cheney) over the final 1.1 frames had scoreless relief outings.

Drew McLaughlin (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Dixie State. Glover and Hayes Hall (Spanish Fork, UT/Spanish Fork) each had a double and three runs batted in as the Storm put up a valiant effort in a comeback attempt.

The Storm will look for the PacWest series split hosting CBU on Saturday at 11 a.m.
