HONOLULU -
Brooklyn Beardshear (Tucson, AZ/Sahuaro) hit two home runs including a grand slam en route to 7-1 and 12-0 wins over Chaminade on Wednesday night in Hawaii.
Beardshear went 5 for 7 on the day, including the grand slam, a solo dinger and mixed in a double. She collected eight RBI over two games.
Pitcher Michelle Duncan (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert High School) improved to 12-0 with the win, allowing one earned run on five hits, striking out seven and walking two. Aryn Feickert (Lancaster, CA/Highland ) dominated game two with a two-hit shutout. She struckout eight over her five-inning game. DSU (21-5, 12-0) outhit Chaminade (3-17, 2-10) 25-7 on the day and extended its winning streak to 15 games.Game 1
The Red Storm got a pair of runs in each of the first two innings.Â
Sheila Gelter (St. George, UT/Dixie High School) knocked in a run with an RBI double and Beardshear brought her around with a single to center in the first inning.
Dixie State added two more in the next inning when
Janessa Bassett (Stansbury Park, UT/Tooele) doubled to score
Josey Hartman (Mapleton, UT/Maple Mountain) and
Nicole Chavez (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala High School) singled to drive her in.
The longball struck for both teams with Chaminade getting a run back on a solo shot but a home run by Beardshear and a two-run bomb by
Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School) kept the Red Storm in front 7-1 in the fourth inning, cruising to victory in seven.
Game 2
A five-run first inning set the tone for another lopsided victory for the Red Storm.
Bassett started it off with a single and a steal, scoring on a Chavez double. Chavez scored on a bunt single from
Sheila Gelter (St. George, UT/Dixie High School) to make it 2-0.
DSU added one on an RBI single from Reiter and two more on a single by
Courtney Sherwin (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain High School). The Red Storm posted seven hits and batted around in the first.
Three more runs came in the top of the fourth on
Courtney Hine (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas High School)'s RBI single followed up by two more on Beardshear's double. Dixie State led 8-0.
As if she didn't do enough already, Beardshear hit a grand slam in the top of the fifth to put the exclamation point on an already terrific day at the plate for a 12-0 win in game two.
Dixie State takes on Hawaii Pacific in a doubleheader on Friday at 5 p.m. MT.
