Women's Basketball Drops Season Opener at Alaska Anchorage

The Dixie State women's basketball team dropped its season opener Friday, falling 122-52 on the road to Alaska Anchorage.

The Seawolves jumped to a 9-0 lead in the first five minutes of the first quarter before the Storm responded with a 5-0 run of its own to trim the lead to 9-5. Sophomore center Ashlee Burge (Riverton, Utah/Herriman) hit a pair of free throws and redshirt freshman guard Tramina Jordan (Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial) nailed a trey to pull DSU to within four points with 5:51 remaining in the opening stanza, but the Storm would get no closer. UAA outscored Dixie State 51-23 through the remainder of the first half, and 62-24 in the second half to secure the victory.

Dixie State shot 27 percent (16-of-59) from the field, 20 percent (2-of-10) from behind the 3-point line, and 60 percent (18-of-30) from the free throw line. Jordan led the Storm with nine points, three rebounds, and two assists, while senior guard Leslie Tademy (Phoenix, Ariz./South Mountain) and sophomore guard Sandria Bolden (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) each added eight points.

DSU returns to action tomorrow in Fairbanks, Alaska in a 5 p.m. Mountain Time matchup with Alaska Fairbanks. Click HERE for links to live video/stats for tomorrow's game at UAF.
