Leslie Tademy (Phoenix, Ariz./South Mountain) led three Storm players in double figures with 14 points, however Dixie State could not hold off a Nanook second-half rally as DSU falls at Alaska-Fairbanks in the second game of the annual PacWest/GNAC Challenge Saturday night, 83-73.
Dixie State used a 15-4 second-quarter run, which erased a one-point first quarter deficit, to take a 25-15 lead midway through the frame. The Nanooks cut the lead to two points at 27-25 late in the stanza, but a
Taylor Mann (Castle Dale, Utah/Emery) lay-in gave the Storm a 29-25 halftime lead.
DSU kept the momentum rolling to start the third quarter as the Storm scored six-straight points to open the frame to extend its lead to 34-25 two minutes in. However Alaska would counter with a 21-6 run, including a 12-2 stretch, to reclaim the lead at 46-40.
Dixie State stayed within striking distance and pulled to within a point at 61-60 on another Mann lay-up with 6:43, but the Nanooks countered with nine-straight points and held the Storm at bay the rest of the way to pick up the win.
Mann recorded her first double-double of the year with 13 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, while
Tramina Jordan (Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial) chipped in 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting before fouling out. DSU hit on 39.1% of its shots (27-of-69), but was done in by 32 turnovers, 21 of which came in the second half, which led to 19 Nanook points.
DSU will travel to Orem for an exhibition game at Utah Valley University next Saturday at 7 p.m.
