Senior
Jasmine Arollo (Glendale, Ariz./Apollo HS) made the most of "Senior Day" in recording her second two-goal match of the season to lead Dixie State to a convincing 3-1 victory over Chaminade Saturday morning at nearby Dixie High School. The win, DSU's eighth in its last nine matches overall, moved the Storm to 10-6-0/7-4-0 in Pacific West Conference play, while the Silverswords fell to 1-14-0/0-11-0.
Dixie State got on the board early in the 20
th-minute when sophomore
Darian McCloy (Herriman, Utah/Herriman HS) headed in a corner kick sent deep into the Chaminade penalty box by fellow sophomore
Montana Tanner (Bountiful, Utah/Viewmont HS). DSU maintained the one-goal advantage through the next 35 minutes of play until the late in the 55
th-minute, when Chaminade was called for a costly handball foul inside the 6-yard box. The Storm was awarded a penalty kick and Arollo buried the chance to extend the lead to 2-0.
DSU kept up the offensive pressure and had a great look at another goal in the 62
nd-minute as freshman
Tori Washington (South Jordan, Utah/Herriman HS) rocketed a straight-on shot from 15-yards out, but the ball caromed off the crossbar to keep it a two-score. Washington did however figure into the Storm's third goal as she sent in a pass from the left wing to Arollo, who fired home a shot past the sprawling Chaminade keeper for her team-leading seventh goal of the year.
DSU's defense limited the Silverswords to just three shots through the first 89 minutes, but Chaminade was able to spoil the Storm's shutout bid with a goal from Kelli Fryxell with 48 seconds remaining in the match. Dixie State was then able to run out the clock to clinch its sixth double-digit win total in 10 years of NCAA Division II competition.
"This was a great win to end our last home game on," Head Coach
Kacey Bingham said. "All three seniors had great performances and have been so instrumental all season. We need to get focused on our last away game next week."
Dixie State wound up with 32 total shot attempts, one off the team's season high (33 vs. Hawai'i Hilo Oct. 10), with 14 shots on frame, with Arollo and senior
Kaisa Rogers (Springville, Utah/Springville HS) leading the way with six shots apiece. Senior goalkeeper
Stacie Gubler (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde HS) made one save to pick up her fifth win in her last six starts overall.
Dixie State will close out the 2015 regular season with a match at Fresno Pacific next Saturday, Nov. 7, at 5 p.m. (PT).
