Women’s Soccer Looks to Extend Win Streak in SoCal This Week

Storm Has Won Five-Straight to Climb Back into PacWest Race

(MATCH NOTES)

Dixie State (7-5-0/5-3-0 PacWest) takes its five-match winning streak out of the road this week as the Storm heads to southern California with hopes to remain in the PacWest title hunt. The third-place Storm (15 points) opens the trip on Thursday, Oct. 22, with a match at fellow third-place team California Baptist (5-6-1/5-2-0/15 pts PacWest) at 12:30 p.m. (PT), at Lancer Soccer Field on the CBU campus in Riverside. The Storm will then take on PacWest leader Concordia (7-2-2/6-1-0 PacWest) Saturday at 11 a.m., (PT) at Eagles Field in Irvine. Live stats links for both matches can be found at www.dixieathletics.com.

DIXIE STATE VS. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS: Dixie State enters Thursday's match at CBU looking for its first-ever win vs. the Lancers as California Baptist has won all eight previous meetings with the Storm. Meanwhile Saturday's match between DSU and Concordia will be the second-ever game between the Storm and Eagles on the pitch as Dixie State claimed a 3-1 result in 2007.

COACHING STAFF: Head coach Kacey Bingham (Arizona State, 2006) is in her third season on the Red Storm bench. Bingham has compiled a 22-19-3 overall record, including a 18-11-1 mark in Pacific West Conference play. Bingham is joined on the sideline by third-year assistant coach Rielee Reed, and first year assistants Emily Fox (Lehi, UT/Lehi), former DSU men's soccer coach Danny Ortiz, and Nyle Ortiz.

STORM PICKED FIFTH IN PACWEST: Dixie State was selected to finish fifth in the PacWest Conference for the second consecutive year. Point Loma received 11 first-place votes to top the poll, followed by California Baptist, Azusa Pacific and Hawai'i Pacific. Fresno Pacific and Concordia came in below the Storm to round out the top half of the poll.

McCLOY NAMED PACWEST CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sophomore forward Darian McCloy (Herriman, Utah/Herriman HS) was named Pacific West Conferenc Co-Offensive Player of the Week Monday for her efforts in leading the Red Storm to two big road victories last week in the Bay Area. McCloy scored three goals on the trip, two of which were game-winning tallies, in victories at Notre Dame de Namur and Academy of Art. Last Thursday at NDNU she scored her second goal of the season as DSU rallied for a 3-2 victory. Then at AAU, McCloy scored two first-half goals in the span of 30 minutes the Storm's 4-2 triumph. McCloy is currently riding a four-match scoring streak, having tallied four goals and two assists over that span.

1,000 POINTS AND COUNTING: Dixie State scored its 1,000th point as an NCAA Division II program late in the first half at AAU last Saturday. McCloy's second goal of the match, which came at the 39:47 mark of the stanza, provided the point needed to reach that milestone.

QUICK KICKS: The Storm pushed their winning streak to five games with their road sweep in the Bay Area last weekend ... buoyed by an offensive resurgence, DSU has scored three goals or more in each of those five wins, including a season-high four goals at AAU ... four of DSU's seven victories in 2015 have come via shut out, including the 3-0 result vs. UHH Oct. 10 ... senior forward Jasmine Arollo (Glendale, Ariz./Apollo HS) has had her boot on 11 of DSU's 23 goals on the season ... Arollo scored her team-high fourth and fifth goals of the year at NDNU, and she picked up her team-leading sixth assist for the year on the eventual GW goal scored by McCloy in the same match ... Arollo, who broke the DSU single-season assist record last year with eight, has six assists through 12 matches this year, which ranks her t-third on the season list ... Arollo's 14 career dimes is also good for t-third on the all-time list and she enters play this week eight assists shy of passing former DSU players Mikala Wilkes (2006-09) and Camille Jensen (2008-11) for the career record (21) ... juniors Aubri Detmer (Austin, Texas/Lake Travis HS) and Alexis Torres (Tucson, Ariz./Palo Verde HS) also got into the scoring act last weekend in the Bay Area ... Detmer scored her second collegiate goal in the fifth minute at AAU last Saturday, which came 28 seconds after the Urban Knights tallied their first goal of the match ... Torres scored her third goal the year as she rocketed a shot from 35-yards out to go "top shelf" over the AAU goalkeeper's head ... in all the Storm tallied 21 total points on seven goals and seven assists in the two Bay Area wins ... senior keeper Stacie Gubler (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde HS) picked up both victories in goal for DSU last week as she came on in the second half of both matches at NDNU and AAU, allowing just one goal with one save in 90 minutes of action ... entering this weekend's matches, Dixie State is averaging 16.3 shots/7.2 SOG per match.

HEAD COACH KACEY BINGHAM ON THE STORM: "We're excited for the games this week. We know we are playing two great teams. It's going to be a great opportunity and challenge for us."

UP NEXT: Dixie State returns home for its final two home matches of the 2015 regular season. The Storm will play host to Hawai'i Pacific on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 4:30 p.m., at Hansen Stadium. DSU will then close its home slate on Halloween Saturday, Oct. 31, vs. Chaminade at 10 a.m., in a match that will be played at nearby Dixie High School.
