GAME NOTES (PDF)

The Dixie State football team travels to Azusa, Calif. on Saturday for a non-conference rematch with Azusa Pacific at Citrus Stadium. The Storm look to build on last week's win over Simon Fraser, while the Cougars look to get back on track after falling in consecutive games to Central Washington and Humboldt State.

Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. Pacific Time (7:30 p.m. MT), as Dixie State continues in the current road stretch with its second consecutive road game. Live coverage is scheduled on radio (ESPN Sports Radio 97.7 FM) and Internet (SouthernUtahLive.com), with Keric Seegmiller providing play-by-play.

LAST MEETING: Sept. 26, 2015. Dixie State opened up its final season of GNAC play on a sour note as the Red Storm came out on the wrong end of a 34-5 decision to Azusa Pacific on Homecoming at Hansen Stadium. The Storm were held to 236 yards, with 216 of those yards coming on the ground. However, DSU was held to a Division-II era low of 20 yards passing. Senior running back DeJon Coleman (Los Angeles, Calif./Arleta HS) led the offense with 101 yards rushing on 13 carries, while sophomore defensive back Colton Olson (Spanish Fork, Utah/Spanish Fork HS) led the defense with 12 tackles.

ALL-TIME VS. APU: Saturday's game marks the 13th meeting between Dixie State and Azusa Pacific. The teams first met on Oct. 28, 2006 at Cougar Stadium in Azusa, Calif., a 38-20 victory for the Cougars. The Storm picked up their first win in the series on Oct. 25, 2008, a 30-23 nailbiter in Azusa where neither team led by more than seven points. Dixie State won two of the next three meetings between the teams, last winning on Sept. 15, 2012. The Cougars lead the all-time series with a 9-3 mark and own a six-game winning streak since the last Dixie State victory.

BALANCED ATTACK: For the first time this season, Dixie State delivered a true balanced attack in the win over Simon Fraser, rushing for 252 yards and passing for 247. The Storm outgained Simon Fraser 499-331, one yard shy of its second consecutive game with at least 500 yards of total offense, although the final kneel-down to end the game lowered the final total by six yards. Freshman quarterback Tyson Blackner (Draper, Utah/Alta HS) completed 12-of-31 passes for two touchdowns and one interception in his first collegiate start. Coleman recorded his third 100-yard rushing performance of the season, rushing for 146 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Senior receiver Nate Stephens (Redding, Calif./Shasta HS) led the receiving corps with 133 yards and a touchdown on five catches. Redshirt freshman receiver Brad Duran (Corona, Calif./Santiago HS) added six catches for 85 yards, and freshman receiver Damarrio Hammonds (Oakland, Calif./Patterson HS) had one catch for 29 yards and a touchdown.

KNOW YOUR FOE: Azusa Pacific enters the rematch between the teams with a 3-3 overall record and a 1-2 mark in the GNAC. The Cougars have lost two consecutive games (Central Washington and Humboldt State) since defeating Dixie State in St. George on September 26. APU ranks second in the GNAC in total offense, averaging 439 yards per game. Sophomore quarterback Chad Jeffries leads the GNAC in passing, averaging 239.5 yards per game, and has completed 97-of-179 passes for 1,437 yards and seven touchdowns. Freshman running back Kurt Scoby has rushed for 695 yards on 108 carries.

The Cougars rank second in total defense, allowing 369.8 yards per game (232.7 rush/137.2 pass). Junior defensive back Jonathan Thropay leads the defense with 48 tackles (eight tackles per game) on the season, good enough for fifth-best in the GNAC.
