Sunbirds blast past Red Storm on Senior Day

Glover omers twice in regular season finale

(Ogden, UT). In the bottom half of the inning with one out, Blair reached after being hit and Kris Kaplan (Las Vegas, NV) followed with a walk. Glover fell behind in the count, but connected on a 1-2 fastball from FPU starter Eain Raeber and sent it over the right field wall for his first home run of the year.

Glover went to the opposite field in the fourth, adding his second home run in as many plate appearances. Drew McLaughlin (Scottsdale, AZ) later added an RBI single while Kevin Kline (Las Vegas, NV) plated a third run, reaching on an infielder's error.

Blair led off the seventh inning with his 11^th blast of the year to open up a two-dinger lead over Kaplan for the most in the PacWest.

But for all of Dixie State's offense, the Sunbirds came ready to play. John Koretoff matched Glover with two homers and Hunter Villanueva finished with four hits, a triple short of the cycle, leading the Sunbirds' 20-hit attack.

Tanner Irwin threw five innings in relief to earn the win for FPU in support of Raeber.

Christoffersen took the loss allowing eight runs in just over two innings. Dixie State used eight pitchers in all, including frames from seniors Cody White (Lacey, WA), Bubba Blau (Roy, UT) and Matt Hill (Cypress, CA). Blau and Hill combined to strike out the side in the ninth in their final showcases at Hurst.

Dixie State closed out the regular season winning 35 of their last 43 games and cruised to a PacWest title with a 26-6 league mark. Now, the waiting game … Dixie State has to wait until the NCAA Division II Baseball Selection Show on May 11 to learn if they will earn a third consecutive trip to the postseason. Six teams will play in the regional and last week, the Red Storm ranked fifth in the West.
