Glover swats four hits for PacWest champs

Box Score

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Donald Glover (Las Vegas, NV) had four hits and Chance Abrath (Salt Lake City, UT) improved to 7-1 on Thursday as the Dixie State baseball team defeated Fresno Pacific, 7-3, in the first game of a Pacific West Conference series at Bruce Hurst Field.

With Glover and
Tyler Blair (Henderson, NV), who homered for the ninth time this season, leading the offense, Abrath produced his second quality start to give the Red Storm its 33rd win of the season.

After
Kevin Kline (Las Vegas, NV) doubled home a pair of runs with a double in the opening frame, Glover set the table in the second and fourth innings with lead off singles. He scored in the second on the tail end of a double steal. Two frames later, Glover scored from first on a double lined into the alley by Ty Johnson (Thousand Oaks, CA).

Blair's home run, a solo shot on a 3-1 pitch, came with two outs in the third inning off FPU starter J.D. Salles.  A second RBI from Blair came in the seventh inning with an RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly from
Kris Kaplan (Las Vegas, NV).

Abrath cruised through his first five innings. He allowed one hit, but immediately induced a ground ball double play from the next batter. He faced 17 batters before allowing a base runner to advance to second base. Abrath scattered three runs over seven innings with four strikeouts.

Matt Hill (Cypress, CA) took the ball in the eighth inning and battled through a late rally by the Sunbirds in the ninth to secure the win.

The Red Storm won the hit battle 12-8, led by Glover's stellar day. Hunter Villanueva hit his first home run of the year while compiling a multi-hit game for FPU.

Games two and three of the series are set for Friday's doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. MT.
