SAN DIEGO – Two weeks into the season, Dixie State baseball did not have a single-game win. Nearly three months later, the Red Storm are the 2014 Pacific West Conference champions.

Behind a pair of comeback efforts, Dixie State won the final two games of their four-game series at Point Loma by scores of 6-4 and 4-3.

With the victories, Dixie State improved to 32-14 on the year and 23-5 in the PacWest. With four games left in the regular season, DSU has a five-game advantage in the loss column over three teams – California Baptist, Fresno Pacific, Azusa Pacific. Point Loma slides to 21-24, 12-16 PacWest with the doubleheader twinbill losses.

In Saturday's opener, Dixie State took a 1-0 lead when Austin Bartleson (Kennewick, WA/Southridge) scored on the front end of a double steal of home and second base. Point Loma would respond with three runs in the bottom of the inning off DSU senior starter Kort Christoffersen (Ogden, UT/Weber).

Kevin Kline (Las Vegas, NV/Rancho) provided an RBI double in the sixth inning to pull the Storm within a run, but it was his swing in the eighth inning that swung the tide in the favor of DSU. After a Drew McLaughlin (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) infield single and consecutive walks to Bartleson and Trey Kamachi (Kapolei, HI/Kapolei), Kline drilled a 2-1 pitch into left field for a double. His hit wiped the bases clean and gave Dixie State its first lead of the game. Kline would later score from third on a wild pitch to post a 6-4 lead.

Kevin Dorantes (Las Vegas, NV/Cimarron Memorial) pitched 2.1 innings of relief, allowing a run on five hits. He earned the winning decision after Evan Parker (Ogden, UT/Bonneville) wrapped up his 12th save of the year tossing a scoreless ninth inning.

Dixie State was outhit 11 to five in the ball game, but benefitted from three walks.

Game two opened with three scoreless innings each from Dixie State's Kort Christoffersen (Ogden, UT/Weber) and Point Loma's Garrett Levsen.

The host Sea Lions plated three runs on consecutive doubles in the fourth inning to take a short-lived lead.

Dixie State responded with the bases loaded and two out in the following frame. Yuto Kata (Chiba, Japan/Juan Diego (Utah)) plated the first two runs with a double to left field. Kamachi followed six pitches later with a single past third base to score two more runs for a 4-3 lead.

The Sea Lions would put the tying and potential go-ahead runs in scoring position in the sixth, but Matt Hill (Cypress, CA/Pacifica) induced a ground ball to end the threat. Hill would close out the seventh, earning his first save, scattering a two-out hit before sealing the deal on the Red Storm's first PacWest title since 2011.

Christoffersen nabbed the win after allowing three runs on five hit over 5.2 innings. Both teams notched seven hits. DSU catcher Ty Johnson (Thousand Oaks, CA/Millennium) had two hits to lead the way.

Dixie State will close out the regular season with a four-game series with the Sunbirds of FPU beginning Thursday 6 p.m. at Bruce Hurst Field.
