Dixie State against CSULA: Dixie State leads 6-3

Dixie State hosts Cal State Los Angeles for a three-game non-conference series from Friday-Saturday, April 18-19, at Bruce Hurst Field. The Red Storm seeks valuable West Region wins against the Golden Eagles, representing the California Collegiate Athletic Association. DSU is currently leading the standings in the Pacific West while CSULA sits eighth in the CCAA.

GAZING AT GOLDEN EAGLES
Cal State L.A. has lost eight straight and is coming off being swept by San Francisco State in a CCAA series. CSULA lost three one-run games during the set. Cal State L.A. went 35-22 overall a year ago en route to the program's first league banner, and was picked to place fourth in this year's CCAA race. The Golden Eagles are 10-9 at home and 4-14 on the road. Casey Ryan and Manny Acosta lead CSULA, each hitting .329 for the year. Senior catcher and NCBWA Preseason All-America Second Team selection Cody Doyle has started all 37 games thus far, is hitting ,326 with three home runs and a team-high 29 RBI. CSULA is hitting .272 as a team with a 5.32 ERA and .959 fielding percentage. Ryan Santhon (2-3, 3.91 ERA) and Brandon Quintero (4-5, 4.45 ERA) are the top starters on the mound, while Marcos Casillas has notched five saves, though he has a 4.67 ERA. Vince Beringhele is in his seventh season at the helm of the Golden Eagles.
