BASE: Storm run win streak to four games

Box Score

ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Dixie State baseball ran its winning streak to four games with a 9-6 non-conference win over Saint Martin's on Thursday night at Bruce Hurst Field.

The Red Storm (7-9) trailed 2-0 in the fourth inning when Yuto Kata (Chiba, Japan/Juan Diego (Utah)) tripled off the right field wall and Kevin Kline (Las Vegas, NV/Rancho) got on base when he was hit by a Zach Carter pitch. Two batters latter, the classic double steal worked as Kata scored as Kline was retired between first and second base.

Dixie State added six runs more runs in the bottom of the fifth when the Storm rattled off five hits and capitalized on a Saint (2-10) error. An infield RBI single from Drew McLaughlin (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain), an RBI single to left for Kata, followed by an RBI single for Kline, an RBI groundout for Tyler Blair (Henderson, NV/Green Valley), and finally a 2 RBI single to down the left field line for Kris Kaplan (Las Vegas, NV/Cimarron Memorial).

John Conquy (Las Vegas, NV/Durango) pitched two and two thirds innings in relief of Red Storm starter Kort Christofferson to pick of the win and improve to 1-1 on the season. Christofferson had six strikeouts in four innings of work and Conquy added four.

Saint Martin's added four runs in the top of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 7-6, but a Blair double off the right center field fence that scored two runners gave DSU the cushion they needed.

Bubba Blau (Roy, UT/Roy) earned his first save in one and one third innings of relief pitching. Blau faced four batters, striking out two.

Kata finished with three of the 10 Storm hits, with Blair and McLaughlin each adding two.

The Red Storm and the Saints play tomorrow in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. at Bruce Hurst Field
