Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

OAKLAND, Calif. – In Friday's doubleheader against Holy Names, the Dixie State starting pitchers threw gems to back up the surging Red Storm offense. Chance Abrath (Salt Lake City, UT/West) tossed his first complete game in an opening 8-2 triumph and Kody Christoffersen (Ogden, UT/Weber) allowed two hits over seven innings in a 6-0 shutout of the Hawks in Pacific West Conference play at Laney College.

Dixie State improved its overall record to 14-11 and 8-2 in PacWest play.

GAME ONE

The Red Storm continued its trend of scoring early on their current road trip with two runs in the first inning. Drew McLaughlin (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) made it to third base on a walk, a passed ball, and a sac bunt from Austin Bartleson (Kennewick, WA/Southridge). Trey Kamachi (Kapolei, HI/Kapolei) began a string of three straight singles with an RBI hit to right center to plate McLaughling. Kevin Kline (Las Vegas, NV/Rancho) and Tyler Blair (Henderson, NV/Green Valley) also followed with hits. Blair's single to right made the score 2-0.

Abrath allowed two HNU (10-14, 0-10 PacWest) runs in the second. After that, he allowed three more base runners for the rest of the game. Abrath moved to 3-1 after allowing two unearned runs on five hits with five strikeouts.

Dixie's offense took the lead in the third with a pair of two-run hits. Kris Kaplan (Las Vegas, NV/Cimarron Memorial) ripped a double to left center and Dalton Gust (Riverton, UT/Cottonwood) singled to right with two outs.

Gust added an RBI single in the eighth inning and Tyler Blair (Henderson, NV/Green Valley) plated Kamachi with a ninth inning single.

Despite three fielding errors, Dixie State dominated the hits battle 15 to 5.

GAME TWO

Three DSU pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout win. Christoffersen walked four, but allowed just two hits in seven innings. Taylor Stone (Sierra Vista, AZ/Buena (AZ)) and Cody Clark (Las Vegas, NV/Cimarron Memorial) each scattered a hit in their inning of relief.

Two runs, with two outs, in the first set the stage offensively for the Red Storm. Kamachi walked and Kline singled to set the stage. Blair singled to center to score Kamachi. Kaplan followed with an RBI double cashing in Kline.

Dixie State's lead ballooned to 5-0 with a Kaplan three-run home run in the third inning, his first blast of the season. Kline added a ninth inning RBI single.

Dixie State and the Hawks return to battle to close out the four-game conference series on Saturday at 1 p.m. MT at the College of Alameda.
