Urban Knights Snap Red Storm Winning Streak at Five

Box Score

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Dixie State University women's basketball team dropped a Pacific West Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon to first place Academy of Art University 97-81, at San Francisco State's Main Gym.

A 12-0 start for ARTU (20-6, 17-1 PWC) saw the Red Storm (13-12, 11-8 PWC) really handcuffed early, as they were not able to recover and trailed 49-31 at the break.

Despite 23 points from Brianna White (Phoenix, AZ/Tolleson Union) and another double double performance from Haileigh Emerine (Spanish Fork, UT/Spanish Fork) (14 pts, 14 reb), DSU didn't have the firepower to Urban Knights in the game.

"It would have been nice to come away with a win," said head coach Catherria Turner. "Although we didn't win, we did do something that were positive."

The Red Storm had four players in double figures, Haley Holmstead (American Fork, UT/American Fork) finished with 16 points and Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) added 12 points.

The Urban Knights clinched the Pacific West Conference Title and the No. 1 seed in the PWC Tournament on March 6-8.  Four player scored in double figures with Krystal Forthan had 22 points and 17 rebounds.

Dixie State score 44 points in the paint and shot 40 percent in the second half, as they outscored ARTU 50-48.

Turner continued, "These are things we have to build on and one of the good things about this situation is we still have one more game and hopefully the conference tournament, we will have to bring it every game here on out."

The Red Storm host California Baptist next Saturday morning in the Burns Arena at 10 a.m. The game will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network as the Division II Women's Basketball Game of the Week.
