GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Dixie State baseball journey for the first win of the 2014 season will have to wait another day. Over 16 innings of doubleheader action, the Red Storm went scoreless in a pair of shutout wins, 2-0 and 1-0, for host Colorado Mesa at Suplizio Field.

Dixie State (0-6) was held to two hits in the nine-inning opener. Mike Umscheid (Beaverton, OR) broke up a no-hit attempt with one out in the seventh and Austin Bartleson (Kennewick, WA) added a single in the eighth. The lack of offense did not aid a quality outing from starting pitcher John Conquy (Las Vegas, NV). In his first start, he scattered the two Colorado Mesa runs on seven hits while fanning five.

In Saturday's second game, Bronson Anderson (Lehi, UT) struck out the side in both the second and third innings. A one-out solo home run in the fifth was the only run of the game, earning Anderson a hard luck loss. He tossed 5.1 innings on four-hit ball. Kody Christoffersen (Ogden, UT) induced two batters to fly our during a relief effort.

The Red Storm outhit CMU five to four in game two. Tyler Blair (Henderson, NV) and Dalton Gust (Riverton, UT) each produced two doubles.

Dixie State looks to avoid the sweep at noon on Sunday.
