Ogden, Hunter lead as DSU rolls to 35 point win over HNU

Ogden, Hunter set career highs in home victory

ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Junior forward Mark Ogden Jr. (Spring Valley, CA/Steele Canyon) scored 18 points in just 16 minutes of play and freshman forward Zac Hunter (American Fork, UT/American Fork) added a career-high 15 points off the bench as Dixie State men's basketball rolled to a 95-60 win over Holy Names in Pacific West Conference play at the Burns Arena.

Ogden finished the night with a spotless 9 of 9 performance from the field and added five rebounds for the Red Storm (6-4, 3-1 PacWest). Hunter connected on 6 of 9 shots during his 21 minutes on the floor.

Dixie State pulled away by taking a 13-8 game at the first media timeout and closing the first half on a 45-13 run. Junior guard Collin Woods (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) capped the big first half with a shot just outside the half court line that found nothing nylon. (HEAR THE RADIO CALL OF THE SHOT HERE)

Over the first 3:09 of the second half, the Storm scored 12 straight points. Mason Sawyer (West Jordan, UT/West Jordan) began the rally with a pair of 3-pointers. Ogden flushed one home on a dunk plus Zach Robbins (Upland, CA/Upland) and Robbie Nielson (Gresham, OR/Barlow) both sank free throws. The spurt gave DSU their biggest lead of the night at 47 points.

7229Head coach Jon Judkins began to empty his bench with the large lead. Holy Names began hitting shots late in the second half to trim the lead to 27 points at one point.

Hunter connected with a jumper the preceded five straight points from redshirt sophomore Ryan Graves (Huntsville, UT/Weber), including a corner 3-ball. Braden Saunders (Morgan, UT/Morgan) pushed the final margin of victory to 35 points with one of his two triples.

Dixie State shot 60.3 percent from the floor while holding the Hawks (2-10, 0-4 PacWest) to 35 percent. Dorian Hardy led the Hawks off the bench with 19 points.

The Storm will play on the final day of 2014, a New Year's Eve matinee against Academy of Art in PacWest play. Tip against the Urban Knights is set for 2:30 p.m.

NOTES: Dixie State is now 3-0 all-time against Holy Names, with an average margin of victory of 28.3 points per game… the Storm won a Valentine's Day 2013 meeting, 93-68, in Oakland, and last year's contest at the Burns, 90-65… This was the second time in the series in which DSU shot 60 percent or better from the floor against HNU (2/14/13, 61.4 percent)… It was the second straight home game that a DSU player hit a long shot at the first half buzzer – Woods against HNU, Sawyer from about 35 feet out last Saturday against Fresno Pacific.
