ST. GEORGE, Utah - In the last regular-season home match, the Dixie State women's volleyball team survived a scare from Chaminade, but topped the visitors from Hawaii 3-2 (29-27, 21-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-8) on Sunday evening.
Edithza Urias (Bakersfield, CA/Golden Valley) led the match with 18 kills, one of four Dixie State (19-8, 16-3) players with double-digit kills.
Nicole Koehler (Sandy, UT/Alta) and
Lindsey Jones (Saint George, UT/Desert Hills) posted 11 kills apiece and
Kendahl Weiland (Albany, OR/West Albany) added 10.
Shelby Sorenson (Lehi, UT/Lehi) and
Kailey Avery (Timpanogos, UT/Timpanogos) spread the wealth with 27 assists each. Chaminade (12-17, 5-14) gave the Red Storm a hard time with 14.0 team blocks  after hitting .154 percent for the match.Â
Dixie State had to escape a first-set upset with back-and-forth start the match. The first set went extra points before the Red Storm strung together two straight after a block by Koehler and
Maddie Rex (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) and a kill from Koehler for a 27-25 win.
Sets two and three saw the Silverswords take control and win each by a score of 25-21 to go up 2-1 in the match and put Dixie State against the wall.
The Red Storm regrouped and came back strong the fourth set, building up a six-point lead midway through the set. Back-to-back errors by DSU brought Chaminade within three but Dixie State went back on the offensive and won set No. 4 25-19.
In the fifth and final set, Dixie State had no problem taking care of business, racing out to a 9-4 lead to put victory in sight. Up 12-8, the Red Storm scored the final three points of the night, topped off by a match-winning ace from
Alex Anderson (Prescott, AZ/Prescott) for the win.
Dixie State wraps up the regular season on the road against Fresno Pacific on Saturday, Nov. 15.Â
