Nusink, top frosh: Nusink earned her second weekly honor with a pair of shutouts on the weekend that snapped Dixie State's two-game losing skid. She made five saves against Dominican, helping an early Red Storm goal stand up for the win. She played only the first half of the 3-0 win over Academy of Art, making one save.
Last week in Storm soccer: The Red Storm bounced back after a pair of shutouts in Southern California by returning the favor with shutout wins against Dominican and Academy of Art. Last Thursday, sophomore Alissa Moffat (Provo, UT/Timpview) made the most of a starting appearance and scored the lone goal of the match to defeat the Penguins, 1-0. Danica Nusink (Springville, UT/Springville) was great in goal, making five saves for her third shutout of the year. Three goals were more than enough for Dixie State on Saturday as they blanked the Urban Knights, 3-0. Darian McCloy (Herriman, UT/Herriman) put in the game-winner in the 15th minute and Alexis Torres (Tucson, AZ/Palo Verde) put back a rebound for her first goal of the year. Jennifer Mason (Springville, UT/Springville) posted her league-leading 11th goal in the 82nd minute off a beautiful Jasmine Arollo (Glendale, AZ/Apollo) cross. Nusink and Angie Ciucci (Stockholm, Sweden/Thorildsplans Gymnasium) each had a save in goal.
A look at the Sunbirds: Fresno Pacific (6-6-2, 6-2-2) is coming off a 1-0-1 week at home – playing to a 1-1 draw against Hawaii Pacific and beating BYU-Hawaii 3-1 on FPU's Senior Day. The Sunbirds will play on Thursday at Azusa Pacific prior to Saturday's match in St. George. Four different players scoring three goals a piece for Fresno Pacific headline a balanced attack. FPU ranks fifth in the PacWest in scoring with 1.53 goals per game while allowing 1.6 goals (seventh in the league). Dixie State won the lone meeting thus far in the all-time series 2-0 last year in Fresno. Kimberly Thurman (Sandy, UT/Alta) and Jennifer Mason (Springville, UT/Springville) had second half goals to lead the Red Storm.
Year two: Kacey Bingham is in her second season as head coach. Prior to DSU, she led Paradise Valley (Ariz.) Community College to the NJCAA National Championship in 2012.
