HPU doubles down on the Red Storm

DSU falls 4-2 to the Sharks

KANEOHE, Hawaii – Hawaii Pacific scored two goals in each half to outpace Dixie State in a 4-2 victory Friday afternoon at Atherton Field. The Red Storm are now 4-5-1 overall and 2-2 in the Pacific West Conference after seeing their two-match winning streak come to an end on the windward side of Oahu.

Senior Jennifer Mason (Springville, UT/Springville) scored her fourth goal in the last two matches, a penalty kick in the first half. Junior forward Jasmine Arollo (Glendale, AZ/Apollo) added her second goal of the year in the 81st minute off an assist from Montana Tanner (Centerville, UT/Viewmont).

The Red Storm put five of their nine shots on frame for the match, but was bested by the Sharks, who fired 22 overall shots including 14 on goal.

Freshman Danica Nusink (Springville, UT/Springville), fresh off combining for her first shutout of the season against Chaminade on Monday, got another start in goal. She made a season-best nine saves while allowing all four HPU goals.

The Sharks put an early tally on the board when Breanna Gaddis headed in a free kick. After Mason's goal knotted the match in the 38th minute, HPU's Lexi Cameau lobbed a high, rainbow-like shot into the net for a 2-1 halftime lead. Hawaii Pacific owned the shot edge, 8-3, in the opening half while Dixie State had the advantage in corners, 2-1.

HPU added two more goals in a span of seven minutes to build the lead to 4-1.

Arollo's goal over the head of Kelby Boswell tried to spark a late rally for the Storm.

Dixie State will remain in Hawaii for one more match as the Storm will head to the Big Island to meet up with UH-Hilo Saturday, Oct. 11 at 4 p.m. HT (7 p.m. MT).
