HILO, Hawaii – Behind second half goals from
Erica Gonzalez (Avondale, AZ/Westview) and
Inyssa Perez (Corona, CA/Santiago), Dixie State defeated Hawaii Hilo 2-0 Saturday on the Big Island and closed out their trip to Hawaii with a 3-1 record.

Dixie State (5-5-1, 3-2 PacWest) took the first of 16 shots for the match 49 second after the opening whistle. It would be a precursor to a 16-5 overall advantage for the Storm in the match.

"We played well, but could have been more disciplined offensively," head coach
Kacey Bingham said. "We were focusing on defense."
After a scoreless 80 minutes of play, the Storm would find the back of the net twice over a four-minute span. Despite an prior offsides, DSU would regain possession and find Gonzalez open in the 81
st minute for a 1-0 lead.

Perez would enter the match after the first goal and find her opportunity three minutes later to build the lead to 2-0.

Leading the way for Dixie State in shots was
Mindi Beckstrom (Nibley, UT/Mountain Crest) with five. Gonzalez followed with three and Perez had two.

Danica Nusink (Springville, UT/Springville) pitched her first career solo shutout making four saves for the Storm.
"We are really happy with the shutout," Bingham added. "It was a great way to end our trip."

Dixie State returns to action at home against Notre Dame de Namur on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
