WEEK 6 WSOC GAME NOTES

Hawaiian excursion continues:
Dixie State women's soccer looks to extend a two-match winning streak this week when Pacific West Conference play continues on the islands. On Thursday, Oct. 9, the Storm will get their first look at the newly-branded Sharks in Kaneohe. Then the trip closes on Saturday, Oct. 11, as DSU faces UH Hilo on the Big Island. Live links for both matches are available on DixieAthletics.com

Last week in Storm soccer: DSU won both matches in the Hawaiian road trip so far. A late game-winner from Kaisa Rogers (Springville, UT/Springville) pushed Dixie State to a 2-1 win under rainy skies against BYU-Hawaii. Aubri Detmer (Austin, TX/Lake Travis) tallied her first goal of the year in BYUH match while Danica Nusink (Springville, UT/Springville) earned her second win in goal. Against Chamiande, it was the Jen Mason show. Her first collegiate hat trick paced the Storm to a 4-0 shutout of the Silverswords. Erica Gonzalez (Avondale, AZ/Westview) added a late goal in support of Nusink and Angie Ciucci (Stockholm, Sweden/Thorildsplans Gymnasium) in goal. DSU improved its record all-time against Chaminade to 12-0.

A look at the HPU, UHH: Hawaii Pacific had a two-match winning streak snapped by Point Loma on Monday. Despite the loss, the Sharks enter with a 5-3-1 overall record and a 2-2 mark in the PacWest. HPU is tied with Dixie State with 14 goals through nine matches, accounting for the most team goals in the PacWest. The Vulcans of Hawaii Hilo are in the middle of a five-match homestand, but the results have not gone their way. UHH lost to Point Loma and played to a scoreless draw against Azusa Pacific. The team has actually played better on the road (5-0-2) than they do at home (0-2-1). UHH is ranked No. 10 in the West by the NSCAA.

Home, sweet home: Upon returning from the islands, Dixie State will host two league matches. On October 16, the Storm face Notre Dame de Namur and leading goal scorer Massiel Castellanos. Two days later on October 18, the Hawks of Holy Names come to St. George for a nighttime match.

Year two: Kacey Bingham is in her second season as head coach. Prior to DSU, she led Paradise Valley (Ariz.) Community College to the NJCAA National Championship in 2012.
