DSU plays the Penguins on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. and then welcomes the Urban Knights on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 12:30 p.m. Both matches will have live streaming via SouthernUtahLive.com and live stat links on DixieAthletics.com.
Last week in Storm soccer: The third trip to Southern California for DSU proved to be bumpy. A pair of 2-0 losses to Azusa Pacific and league-leading Point Loma took the Storm out of title contention. APU did a nice job of limiting the Dixie State attack, including holding PacWest leader Jennifer Mason (Springville, UT/Springville) to zero shots. Saturday against the Sea Lions, DSU came out firing, but could not find the back of the net. Â
A look at Dominican, Academy of Art: Dominican (3-11-1, 3-5-1) is coming off a home split last week against Hawaiian schools. Hawaii Pacific downed the Penguins 5-0 before DU bounced back with a 2-1 win over UH Hilo on Senior Day. Dominican ranks eighth in the PacWest in scoring 1.067 goals per game, while allowing 2.27 goals to opponents. McKenna Kimball has five goals to lead all DU scorers. Dixie State won last year's matchup 2-0 in San Rafael. In 2011, the Storm defeated Dominican 4-0 at Hansen. Academy of Art (2-11-1, 2-6 PacWest) won a double overtime match against BYU-Hawaii, 1-0, before dropping a 1-0 decision to Chaminade last Saturday. Rea Laudat (4) and Louise Fillingham (3) combine for seven of the nine ARTU goals for the season. The Urban Knights are second from the bottom in goals per game (0.6) and next to last in goals allowed (2.5). Dixie State is 8-0 all-time against the Urban Knights including a double overtime 2-1 win last year and a 6-0 victory in St. George back in 2011.Â
Senior sendoff for five: One match remains next week on the 2014 Dixie State women's schedule – Sat. Nov. 8 against Fresno Pacific. Five DSU seniors – Mindi Beckstrom (Nibley, UT/Mountain Crest), Kimberly Thurman (Sandy, UT/Alta), Aarika Andersen (Bountiful, UT/Woods Cross), Emily Fox (Lehi, UT/Lehi) and Jennifer Mason (Springville, UT/Springville) – will wear the Storm colors for the final time inform of their home fans.Â
