Holmstead (14-21) scored her most important basket of the game with just 10 seconds left in the game that gave DSU (2-5/1-1 PWC) the courageous hard fought victory over Fresno Pacific (0-7/0-1 PWC).
The Red Storm trailed at intermission by five points, allowing three first half three-pointers to help the Sunbirds take the 46-41 lead. In the second half FPU added a basket and a free throw to take its largest lead of the game at 49-41 with 18:53 remaining. Brianna White (Phoenix, AZ/Tolleson Union) found the net for three of her 20 points. The Red Storm won its fourth straight game and improves to 6-6 on the season and 4-2 in the Pacific West Conference and sweep the difficult Hawaiian Islands road swing. A 9-0 run by the Sea Warriors (7-4/3-2 PWC) gave them the lead at 36-31 with 3:57 left, but DSU responded with a 14-0 run to eliminate the deficit and build the lead. The first half performances of White (10 points) and Holmstead (20 points) helped lead the Red Storm to a 43-38 advantage heading into the locker room. The Red Storm outrebounded HPU 59-38, but despite committing 28 turnovers DSU walks away with the victory.

RED STORM NOTES: For the first time since 2011, the Red Storm were went to the Hawaiian Islands and came back with three wins, including an impressive win over Hawaii Pacific to conclude the road swing. Haley Holmstead (American Fork, UT/American Fork) continues to lead DSU in scoring at 21.6 ppg, and junior Kayla Miller chips in 14.2 ppg. Brianna White (Phoenix, AZ/Tolleson Union) continues to suprise most teams by adding a nice addition to the Red Storm offense with 10.9 ppg. Inside for DSU, Taylor Mann (Castle Dale, UT/Emery) took the islands by storm as she went and collected three double double performances. She is averaging 8 ppg and 6.9 rpg. Haileigh Emerine (Spanish Fork, UT/Spanish Fork) continues to perform with consistency inside, leading DSU in rebounding with 8.3 ppg.

The Red Storm lead the PacWest in several categories, with most of them centered around its ability to rebound the basketball. DSU grabs 56.1 rpg and outrebound their opponents by a margin of 14 per game. Scoring offense is another category they lead the conference at 82.7 ppg, but allow 80.7 ppg. DSU shoots 37.3 percent from the field and 28.2 percent from behind the arc. They are led by first year head coach Catherria Turner.

The Storm average 73.6 ppg , shooting 37.2 percent from the field and 27.8 percent from behind the arc. The real issue for the DSU squad has been allowing 82.3 ppg and committing 19.9 turnovers per game. But, head coach Catherria Turner has the team headed in the right direction and look for them to continue to build on that during its road trip.
