SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – It rained for the first time during a match at Kennelly Field on the campus of Dominican University; making it appropriate for the Red Storm to be the opponent in Pacific West Conference play.

With a first half goal from Jennifer Mason (Springville, UT/Springville) and a second half tally from Kaisa Goodman, Dixie State defeated the host Penguins 2-0 on Saturday morning.

Dixie State concluded its first road trip in league play with a 2-1 in the Bay Area to improve to 2-3-1 overall. Dominican dropped to 2-3-2, 0-1-1 PacWest.

Mason put the Red Storm on the board in the 31st minute. After a Kimberly Thurman (Sandy, UT/Alta) shot slipped away from Domincan goalie Megan Herring, Mason struck the loose ball into the net for a 1-0 lead. Each team had three shots in the rainy opening 45 minutes of play.

Despite being outshot 8-6 in the second half, Thurman again acted as the catalyst for Goodman's 61st minute goal. A solid pass from the right side crossed over to Goodman, who put a touch to the left corner past Herring.

Stacie Gubler (Las Vegas, NV/Palo Verde) stopped seven shots to earn her first solo shutout of the year.

Dixie State returns home for four critical PacWest matches against the Hawaiian schools. DSU hosts Hawai'i Pacific next Saturday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
