SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dixie State University held a slim advantage at half, but could not hang on to the lead Saturday afternoon at Dominican University of California. After 110 minutes of action, the teams settled for a 1-1 draw in Pacific West Conference play.

Dixie State earned their first point of a three-match league road trip, moving to 0-3-2 on the season. Dominican earned a draw for the second time this week to settle at 1-3-2, 0-1-1 PacWest.

Freshman midfielder Jordan Steed (Layton, UT/Layton) netted his first collegiate goal in the 35th minute to give Dixie State a 1-0 lead. Erik Shallenberger (Las Vegas, NV/Arbor View) entered a pass from nearly 45 yards out and Steed put the ball past the Penguin keeper.

The lead held until the 69th minute. Dominican received a free kick inside the goal box after Tyler Walters (Ogden, UT/Ben Lomand) was called for a foul after grabbing an opponent's ankle. David Mendez placed the ball into the net to tie that match at 1-1.

Both team fired three shot in the opening overtime session. The Penguins almost took the golden goal win with successive shot in the 97th minute.

Dominican lost a player in the second overtime on a red card, but Dixie State could not get off a shot in the final 10 minutes.

Walters earned the draw with seven saves. Dominican held a slight match advantage in shots, 18-16.

Dixie State returns home for its longest home stretch of the year. Matches begin Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Hope International in a non-conference meeting.
