FRESNO, Calif. – The Dixie State women's soccer team put together a second half barrage of shots in defeating host Fresno Pacific, 2-0, on Tuesday. Kimberly Thurman (Sandy, UT/Alta) and Jennifer Mason (Springville, UT/Springville) scored their first goals of the season for the Red Storm, who won their first match of the year (1-2-1, 1-0-0 Pacific West).

"We are excited for our first win of the season," DSU head coach Kacey Bingham said. "We still need to come out a little stronger, but we had a solid second half performance."

After a scoreless first half, Thurman blasted a shot from outside the box to the corner of the net to give DSU a 1-0 lead.

The Red Storm onslaught of shots in the second half, 20-7 in total, kept FPU goalie Sarah King busy all night.

Dixie State earned some separation from the Sunbirds (1-3-0, 0-1-0 PacWest) in the 87th minute. Ashley Wade (Saint George, UT/Pine View) played the ball near the net to give Jennifer Mason (Springville, UT/Springville) a point-blank shot into the net for the 2-0 advantage.

"Kim and Jen both finished two key opportunities", Bingham added.

Cecilee Horlacher (St. George, UT/Snow Canyon) earned the goalie win with three second half saves after Stacie Gubler (Las Vegas, NV/Palo Verde) made four stops over the opening 45 minutes.

The Red Storm stay in California with Pacific West league matches at Notre Dame de Namur on Sept. 19 (2 p.m. Pacific) and at Dominican on Sept. 21 (11 a.m. Pacific).
