Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PHOENIX – Sixteen innings of scheduled baseball turned into 20 as the number three and four-ranked clubs in the NCAA Division II West Region faced off Friday at Brazell Stadium. Kevin Kline (Las Vegas, NV/Rancho) and Garrett Nash (Draper, UT/Jordan) provided the go-ahead hits in a pair of 10-inning Dixie State wins, 5-4 and 4-1.

With the Pacific West Conference twinbill sweep, the Red Storm improves to 31-15 on the year and 23-13 in league play. Grand Canyon fell to 34-15, 26-10 PacWest.

In game one, two runs plated in the eighth inning on a pair of RBI singles by Nash and Jordan Hanley (Las Vegas. NV/Bonanza). DSU had the bases loaded before ending the rally.

Colton Yack (South Jordan, UT/Bingham) tied the Dixie State all-time hits record in the eighth with a single through the right side. His career total hit 190, the same number posted by former DSU outfielder Brett Adams.

Mike Dedrick (Cedar City, UT/Canyon View) allowed four runs on five hits over seven innings, but it was three solid frames from Bryce Anderson (Cedar City, UT/Cedar HS) that kept the game manageable heading into extra frames. Anderson earned the relief win facing one batter over the minimum in three sparkling innings.

Two walks in the top of the 10th set the scene for DSU's RBI leader. Kline singled to center field off Brandon Bonilla to plate Hanley with the game winner.

The Storm out-hit GCU 14 to six, including 10 hits off starter Jorge Perez.

The nightcap saw a pitcher's duel between DSUs Sam Friend (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) and GCU hurler Andrew Naderer.

In the midst of the duel, Yack took sole custody of the DSU hits mark with a push bunt single in the first inning, his 191st career hit.

#D.J. Andrade# broke a scoreless tie in the seventh (last inning of regulation) with an RBI double. Josh Mooney (American Fork, UT/American Fork) allowed the equalizing run in the bottom half with a one-out single. Both teams left runners on base in the eighth and ninth.

In the fateful tenth frame, Hanley singled and advanced to second on a Yack sacrifice bunt. Cedric Johnson (Thatcher, AZ/Thatcher) drew an intentional walk, bringing Nash to the dish. The senior came through with a triple down the left field line plating the two go-ahead runs. Ryan Wescott (Glendale, AZ/Cactus) added an RBI single for a 4-1 advantage.

Kody Christoffersen (Ogden, UT/Weber) struck out three over 1.2 innings of relief for the win.

DSU closes out the series and the regular season Saturday with a non-conference tilt. First pitch is at 1 p.m. Arizona time.
