Storm shutout in opener at HPU

WAIPAHU, Hawaii – Hawai'i Pacific pitcher Cory Yuh tossed a complete-game, five-hit shutout Wednesday night in defeating Dixie State, 7-0, in the opening game of a four-game Pacific West Conference series at Hand L'Orange Park.
 
Dixie State (11-4-1, 4-3-1 PacWest) was held hitless over the last three innings and was Yuh strikeout victims on 10 occasions. Yuto Kata (Chiba, Japan/Juan Diego (Utah)) led the offense with a pair of singles.
 
Bryce Anderson (Cedar City, UT/Cedar HS) took the loss (1-2) allowing four runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings. Josh Mooney (American Fork, UT/American Fork) pitched well again in relief scattering an unearned run over three frames.
 
For the Sea Warriors, Kale Sumner had three of the HPU 11 hits including a two-run home run.
 
The teams tangle in a pair of seven-inning games Thursday, beginning at 8 p.m. MDT.
