Team Effort Leads Dixie State to Win over Western Oregon

Box Score LAS VEGAS --  The Dixie State women's basketball team picked up a much needed 88-78 victory over Western Oregon tonight at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas Challenge.

The Red Storm (3-6) snapped its two-game skid by leading from tip to the final buzzer. The victory included opening up a lead of 18 points late in the second period.

"Its always great to get a win going into the Christmas break," said head coach Catherria Turner. "This was a great team win."

Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) dropped four 3-pointers, dished out six assists and was 9 of 9 from the charity stripe to help the Red Storm emerge with a victory. She was fouled three times while attempting three pointers, making one and converting all seven free-throws.

Miller scored a team-high 21 points and was one of four Dixie State players in double figures. Brianna White (Phoenix, AZ/Tolleson Union) scored 20 points and pulled down six rebounds. Haley Holmstead (American Fork, UT/American Fork) scored 16 points on 7 of 10 shooting, while Taylor Mann (Castle Dale, UT/Emery) scored 10 with nine rebounds.

Turner concluded, "Our players played together and hard, we made great steps in the right direction tonight."

Dana Goularte scored a game-high 24 points for Western Oregon (3-6).

The Red Storm will have the next two weeks off, returning to the floor Jan. 2 against Hawaii Hilo as part of the three-game Hawaii road trip.
