Marchbanks scores in Storm 2013 finale

DSU drops another 4-1 decision to CBU

Box Score

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Sophomore forward Megan Marchbanks (Springville, UT/Springville) netted her fifth goal of the season, but the end of Dixie State's inaugural campaign under head coach Kacey Bingham ended Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 non-conference loss at California Baptist.

The Red Storm finishes the year with a 7-7-2 record and 22 points in the Pacific West Conference (7-4-1).

"It's a disappointing end to a good season," DSU head coach Kacey Bingham said. "I wish we had a better result, but I'm proud of the fact we scored in both games against a team that is used to getting shutouts."

California Baptist had eight shutouts on the year, including a six-match stretch from Sept. 28 through Oct. 26. The Lancers closed the regular season 12-5, 10-2 in the PacWest. CBU earned the automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division II National Tournament by finishing second behind Azusa Pacific, who is not yet eligible for postseason championships.

Marchbanks scored on a header thanks to an entry pass from Abby Jameson (Tyler, TX/Robert E. Lee). For Jameson, it was the second assist in as many matches against the Lancers.

"Megan had an amazing game and deserved the goal today," Bingham added.
