ST. GEORGE, Utah – Saturday's Pacific West Conference match saw one team convert a penalty kick while the other missed on its opportunity.

A 61st minute PK off the foot of Lindsey Poulson gave the University of Hawaii at Hilo women's soccer team a 1-0 lead they would not relinquish. The Vulcans packed the defensive area and blasted kicks away to preserve the win over Dixie State at Hansen Stadium.

The loss drops the Red Storm to 4-4-2 on the year and 4-2-1 in the PacWest.

"We felt like we were in the game for the full 90 minutes," DSU head coach Kacey Bingham said. "We are disappointed that it came down to PKs, but we should have found a way to score."

Dixie State had their chances, including a penalty shot in the 16th minute. Kaisa Goodman took the kick toward the right side, but UH Hilo (5-3-1/2-3 PacWest) keeper Jenna Hufford made one of her four saves to keep the match scoreless.

Poulson converted her PK just past the outstretched hands of Stacie Gubler (Las Vegas, NV/Palo Verde) to break the scoreless stalemate.

Dixie State outshot the Vulcans 10-5, but only a 68th minute header from Ashley Wade (Saint George, UT/Pine View) came close to the net. Goodman paced DSU with three shots while Jennifer Mason (Springville, UT/Springville) and Aarika Andersen (Bountiful, UT/Woods Cross) each had two.

The Red Storm heads to the Bay Area for a match next Saturday at Holy Names. DSU will also play Academy of Art on the road swing before returning home on Oct. 19 for its next home match against Azusa Pacific.
