MSOC: Own Goal Handcuff's Red Storm Against Point Loma

SAINT GEORGE, UT -- Dixie State men's soccer fell 2-1 at Hansen Stadium to Point Loma Nazarene University in a Pacific West Conference tilt on Saturday afternoon.

A scoreless game after 70 minutes, the Red Storm (2-9-3/1-8-2 PWC) scored when Jorge Echavarria (Las Vegas, NV/Sierra Vista) found Michael Garay in the 73rd minute on a long pass and Garay beat the drawn out Point Loma (75-3/5-2-3 PWC) goalkeeper to take a 1-0 lead.

Just three minutes later, a DSU own goal in the 77th minute squared the match up and gave the Sea Lions the shot of momentum they needed.

Just two and a half minutes later in the 80th minute, Point Loma scored the game winner on a touch pass from Nico Tagaloa to Dylan Wingrove for the victory.

Early in the game DSU had several close opportunities, outshooting the Sea Lions 9-3 in the first half but could never capitalize. The Storm outshot PLNU 13-9 for the match.

The comeback for DSU took was curbed when Joshua Cook (Las Vegas, NV/Las Vegas) was given a red card in the 83rd minute, forcing the Red Storm to play a man down for the final seven minutes.

Dixie State concludes its home schedule with a non-conference battle with Westminster (UTAH) College at 4 p.m. on Sunday November 3.
