WSOC looking to rebound in Northern California

Red Storm on the road against the Hawks, Urban Knights

ANOTHER TRIP TO THE CITY BY THE BAY:
Dixie State women's soccer team continues their march toward the top of the Pacific West Conference standings with a two-match excursion to the Northern California. The Red Storm tangles with Holy Names on Oct. 12 (2 p.m. MT) and Academy of Art on Oct. 14 (noon MT).

KEEP UP TO DATE:
The HNU match from Merritt College in Oakland will have no media/live stat coverage. Statistics and a full recap will be available late Saturday. Monday's match with ART U will have live stats at www.sidearmstats.com/academyart/wsoc/xlive.htm.

RED STORM WATCH:
Dixie State's four-match string at home against the Hawaiian schools began promising, but the inability to close out matches hindered the Storm over the final three contests.

The Storm opened with a 2-0 victory over Hawaii Pacific thanks to early second half goals from Kimberly Thurman (Sandy, UT/Alta) and Megan Marchbanks (Springville, UT/Springville). Two days later, the Storm had a 3-1 lead over Chaminade, but allowed the equalizers over the final five minutes to send the match into overtime. Marchbanks quickly ended the match with a golden goal to give DSU the 4-3 victory. The theme of giving up late goals reared its head in the next match with BYU-Hawaii. The Seasiders scored twice in a span of six minuted, ensuring a 2-2 draw. The final match of the series saw UH Hilo convert on a PK in the second half and effectively play defensive keepaway for a 1-0 win over DSU

Marchbanks had three goals and an assist in four matches. Thurman added three goals and Jennifer Mason (Springville, UT/Springville) had three helpers.

A LOOK AT THE HAWKS:
Holy Names is 3-6 on the season and 0-4 in the PacWest (T-12th place, 0 points). After a season-opening win against the University of Antelope Valley, the Hawks have been shutout in five of the following eight matches. Most recently, HNU dropped a pair of PacWest matches – 2-0 at Dominican and 1-0 at ART U. Senior forward Alyssa Flores paces the Hawks with five goals in nine matches. Jenni Dooley is the most seasoned goalkeeper, allowing 2.44 goals a game.

A LOOK AT THE URBAN KNIGHTS:
Academy of Art is 2-7-1 on the season and 1-3-1 in the PacWest (9th place, 4 points). The Knights have one win and a tie in their last eight matches. The win was against Holy Names (1-0) on Oct. 4 and the draw was against Azusa Pacific (1-1) on Sept. 21. The Urban Knights have allowed 19 goals on the year while scoring only eight. Junior midfielder Louise Fillingham leads all ART U scorers with four goals and eight points. Goalkeeper Rachael Rempe has a 1.83 GAA with one season shutout.

WHAT'S NEXT:
After the Bay Area trip, the Red Storm return home for two PacWest matches – Azusa Pacific (Oct. 19) and Point Loma (Oct. 26).
