Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm in the Burns Arena, with live audio coverage on Dixie State All Access (DixieAtheltics.com/showcase) and 91.3 FM KXDS. “Voice of the Red Storm,” John Potter has the play-by-play. ALL-TIME vs. APU: The Cougars lead the all-time series 1-0. They defeated the Red Storm 66-59 on 1/12/13 in Azusa, Calif. This will be the first time APU has travelled to the Burns Arena.

LAST TIME OUT:  Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) has dominated her opponents all year long and tonight was no exception. She led the Dixie State women's team to a 73-69 Pacific West Conference win over California Baptist by scoring 24 points and grabbing 13 rebounds en-route to her ninth double double of the season.

Brown was 10 for 17 from the floor, 4 of 7 from the foul line and added seven assists and three stills in 37 minutes tonight.

The team performance helped interim head coach Derek Dawes earn his first ever coaching victory tonight.

A Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) jumper with 12:26 left in the first half gave the Red Storm a 12-10 lead that they never relinquished. They led by as many as 10 in the first half and 13 in the second half.

The Lancers began to chip away at the Red Storm lead heading towards the halftime break, getting within six late. A final possession in which the Lancers gave up two offensive boards and three shots led to a Dixie State bucket and a 37-29 lead heading into the break, however.

Brown scored 15 of her game high 24 in the first half, but Jasmine Beverly did manage 13 points in the half for CBU. The Red Storm offense was efficient in the first half, outscoring the Lancers 22-12 in the paint. With just over five to play CBU cut what had been a double-digit Red Storm lead to six at 63-57.

CBU then went to work both on the defensive end and on the glass, getting an offensive rebound and bucket from Beverly and then a steal on the defensive end leading to a foul . Simone Holmes hit one of two foul shots to cut it to 63-60.

Jordan Giles (Rock Springs, WY/Rock Springs) (Rock Springs, WY/Rock Springs) responded with a huge three on the very next possession to push it back to six.

CBU again battled back and cut it to a four point game with 1:38 to play and then two possessions late made it 68-66 on a Myiah Hicks drive to the basket with 25 seconds left.

After the Hicks basket, a quick foul sent Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) to the line. Miller would hit four consecutive free throws to secure the victory and sweep the season series with the Lancers.

Dixie State shot 44.3 percent from the floor and forced the Lancers to shoot below their season average at 35.7 percent.

Beverly finished the game with her fourth double-double of the year, posting 25 points and 15 rebounds. Hicks scored 18 in the game.

Hayes sparked the Red Storm off the bench with 10 points and helped DSC improve to 8-8 overall and 6-2 in the PWC.

SCOUTING the RED STORM:  Dixie State snapped their two game losing streak with their victory over APU. They improve to 8-8 overall, but most importantly remain near the top in the PacWest standings at 6-2. Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) (13.9 ppg and 11.9 rpg) continues to dominate PacWest opponents. She is averaging 17.1 ppg in PacWest play. She has recorded nine double-double performances to date.  Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) (10.8) continues to threaten opponents from behind the arc, but the Red Storm also have Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) (9.6 ppg) and Mandy Munns (Brigham City, UT/Box Elder) (9.3 ppg) to their bag of tricks. DSC averages 72.1 points per game and are shooting 41.7 percent from the field.  Rebounding has been a strong point with a +4.9 rebounding average over their opponents. Turnovers continue to plague the DSC offense, averaging 20.3, a minus 3.9 margin.

NCAA STATS: Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) currently ranks 7th in the NCAA in rebounding at 11.9 per game. She also ranks 12th in double-doubles with nine. As far as a team, DSC is 323rd in assists per game (16.5) and 36th in scoring offense.

DISHING WITH DAWES: “ The team is excited to get back on the court and play. We had a good week of practice and the girls will be ready to battle a very good Azusa team.”

SCOUTING AZUSA PACIFIC: Led in scoring by two forwards Hannah Kenny (13.2) and Kelly Hareman (12.1), and guard Amanda Sims (10.0) the Cougars have lost their last two and are looking to rebound with another victory over the Red Storm. The Cougars dropped a heartbreaker in overtime to California Baptist and lost big at Grand Canyon. APU scores 57.7 points per game and shoots just 35.8 percent from the field. Turnovers have handcuffed the Cougars all season long. They average 19.0 per game and are a minus 1.4.

DAWES on APU: “APU plays extremely hard and does well putting on full court pressure. We have prepared for it and hopefully will rise to the challenge.”

LAST TIME AGAINST THE COUGARS: The Dixie State women's basketball battled back from a 19-point deficit to take a three point lead with under three minutes to play only to see that lead slip away by losing 66-59 to Azusa Pacific at the Felix Events Center. The Red Storm dropped their second consecutive PacWest game. Trailing 40-27 at the half, DSC used a 32-10 run to take the three point lead, but allowed Azusa Pacific to follow with a 10-0 spree to close the game en route to its fourth straight win. The Storm committed 26 turnovers in the game, the third straight game they have had 20 plus.

Dixie State had only one player finish in double-figures, with Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) leading the way with 12 points. The Red Storm's top scorer, Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ), was limited to nine points and eight turnovers. But, Brown did grab 13 rebounds to boost her average to 11.8 per game.
