Derek Dawes is in his seventh year in the Athletic Department at DSU and was promoted to Associate Athletic Director for External Relations in 2015. Dawes is responsible for all Athletics corporate sponsorships and directs all facets of the athletics annual giving program (Dixie State Trailblazer Club), along with team fundraising and supervising all major fundraising and special projects with the Athletic Director. Additionally, he heads all marketing and promotional efforts for the department and serves as the Student Athlete Advisory Council Advisor. He also develops and directs all department community outreach programs and service projects.
Prior to Dixie State, Derek worked at a graduate assistant in the North Idaho College athletic department while he was enrolled in his master’s program at nearby Gonzaga University. His duties included fundraising, event operations and marketing. In addition to working at NIC, Dawes also served as a graduate assistant in the Sport and Physical Education Department at Gonzaga University.
A native of Salt Lake City, he graduated from Gonzaga University in 2010 with his Master of Arts degree in Sport and Athletic Administration. He received the 2010 Jeanne Foster Wardian Leadership Award while at Gonzaga. Prior to Gonzaga, Dawes attended Brigham Young University, where he earned a Bachelors degree in Public Health Education in 2007. He was a member of the men’s basketball team from 2000-2001, 2003-2007. In 2007, Dawes was the recipient of the BYU men’s basketball Senior Recognition Award.
Derek and his wife Lauryn are the proud parents of three sons, Trey, Max and Nash.
