Red Storm Drop Five Set Match at Chaminade

Box Score

HONOLULU, HI - In Wednesday's night's volleyball match at Chaminade, it was a story a Jekyl vs. Hyde for the Dixie State volleyball team. After winning the first two sets (25-20, 25-17) with the ease, the Red Storm dropped the final three (17-25, 18-25, 10-15) at McCabe Gym.

In first two sets of the match, the Red Storm (2-5, 0-2 PWC) hit .303 and .302 respectively and appeared to be in control of winning their first PacWest Conference match of the season. But, the Silverswords (4-6, 1-2 PWC) had other ideas dominating the final three sets of the match to steal the victory.

Dixie State hit just .050 in the third set, -0.057 in the fourth set and .050 in the final set. Despite having a solid night at the net with 14 team blocks, it wasn't enough to over come the Red Storm's sub par hitting performance.

Mercedes O'Neal (West Jordan, UT/West Jordan) led DSC with 13 kills, Brita Jensen (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville) added 11 and Shannon Young (Whittier, CA/St Paul) finsihed with 10. Jen Hardman (American Fork, UT/American Fork) had 39 assists in the loss.

For Dixie State, the Hawaiian road trip just gets tougher with a match against #14 BYU-Hawaii on Friday night in Laie and finishing the long road trip with a match on Saturday night with Hawaii Pacific.
