WSOC: Four goals in second half complete PWC comeback at ART U

Box Score

SAN FRANCISCO – It was the best of halves, it was the worst of halves on Thursday as the Dixie State women's soccer team came back from a three-goal deficit after the first half to post a 4-3 win over Academy of Art in Pacific West Conference action by the bay.

The aggressive Red Storm (2-3-2/2-1 PWC) got a pair of goals from Jennifer Mason (Springville, UT/Springville), an equalizer from Megan Marchbanks (Springville, UT/Springville) and the game-winner from Kelsey Tesoro (Torrance, CA/Shadow Ridge) to hand the Urban Knights (2-5/0-3 PWC) a loss.

ART U took just seven shots in the opening 45 minutes, but scored three goals thanks, in some part, to Jasmine Sharp on each occasion. The midfielder had a goal and two assists for the 3-0 lead at the break.

Mason sliced the lead to one with her goals coming 62 seconds apart in the 57th and 58th minutes. The first came from close range after a Marchbanks assist. Mason struck from 25 yards out on the left side for the second goal.

Marchbanks found the equalizer from just inside 20 yards. She beat her defended and knocked the ball in from the right side.

In the 85th minute, Tesoro put the Red Storm ahead from the left side, 14 yards clear of the net.

Dixie State out shot the Urban Knights 16 to four in the second half and 22 to 11 overall. Mason outpaced all players with seven shots.

Abby Johnson (Escondido, CA/Mission Hills) saw only five shots on goal, making saves on two of them for the win in net.

A meeting with Holy Names awaits DSC on Saturday to close out the trip to the Bay Area. Kick is at 4:30 p.m. Mountain.
