Box Score

ST. GEORGE – The “beautiful game” returned to the pitch at Hansen Stadium on Thursday during day one play in the 2012 Dixie State Kickoff Classic. After 110 minutes of play, a spirited non-conference matchup between the hosts from Dixie State College and the nationally-ranked guests from Cal State Los Angeles ended in a stalemate, 2-2.

Goals by Kristin Page (Centerville, UT/Viewmont) and Jen Mason (Springville, UT/Springville) occurred within a two-minute span of the second half. The 13th-ranked Golden Eagles (0-0-1) took a lead in the 52nd minute after a scoreless first half. Page notched the equalizer from 20 yards out with an assist from Shelby Christensen (Bountiful, UT/Woods Cross).

Mason put the Red Storm (0-0-1) up by a goal kicking a rebounded header to the left side of the net.

CSULA found its tying goal in the 62nd minute off a nice pass from Heather Williams to Shereen Khoobbagha.

The Eagles outshot Dixie State 6-3 in the overtime periods, but neither team found a goal for sudden victory.

Abby Johnson (Escondido, CA/Mission Hills) saved seven shots in goal for the Red Storm.
