Storm shutout GCU behind Anderson masterpiece

DSC claims second-place in PacWest

Box Score

ST. GEORGE – Entering Saturday, Bryce Anderson (Cedar City, UT/Cedar HS) had a three-hit shutout as his best outing in a Dixie State College uniform. His performance against Grand Canyon in a 10-0 Pacific West Conference victory superseded any previous start.

Anderson tossed a two-hit complete game, striking out three, and carrying a no-hit big into the seventh inning. The 119-pitch outing dropped his ERA nearly a full point to 3.35 (from 4.17 before the game).

The Red Storm locked up second place in the PacWest with the win, improving to 29-17 on the year and 25-15 in the league.

Anderson got all the offensive support he needed from DSC bats in the second inning. The Red Storm scored seven runs on four hits. Yuta Kata singled up the middle to begin the rally. Jordan Hanley (Las Vegas. NV/Bonanza) notched an RBI being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Garrett Nash (Draper, UT/Jordan) lined a two-run double, Cedric Johnson (Thatcher, AZ/Thatcher) dealt a bases loaded walk and two more runs scored on a sharp single by Mitch Manning (Kaysville, UT/Davis).

Anderson cruised thorough the middle of the game. He retired 15 batters in a row from the end of the second inning until P.J. Garcia singled in the seventh.

Nash went 3 for 6 on the afternoon, adding an RBI in the Storm's two-run fifth frame. Manning also had three hits while Johnson brought home two.

Dixie State pounded out a series-high 13 hits against a quintet of GCU pitchers. Starting pitcher Coltin White took the loss allowing seven runs over 1.1 innings.

The Red Storm opens its final regular-season series Friday at 7 p.m. against Cal State Los Angeles in non-conference action.
