STORM WATCH: DSC finished the exhibition season with a 1-1 record - a big win over D3 Bethesda (91-56) and a close loss to D1 #18/19 UNLV at the Thomas & Mack (81-80, OT).

LAST TIME OUT: McKay Massey (Payson, UT/Payson) (Payson, UT/Payson) went for career highs in points, rebounds and assists Wednesday as Dixie State College overcame a 17-point halftime deficit to force overtime. A 7-0 run by the Red Storm to begin the extra session was bested by the Rebels' final eight points for an 81-80 win in exhibition play at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The senior guard lit up the scoreboard with 25 points on nine-of-13 shooting including six three-pointers. Massey added nine rebounds and eights assists. “Mac played as well as I have ever seen,” said DSC head coach Jon Judkins. “After he had a shot blocked in the first half, he showed no fear late.” Dalton Groskreutz (Santa Clara, UT/Snow Canyon) (Santa Clara, UT/Snow Canyon) posted his second straight game in double figures with seven buckets on 13 shots for 19 points. His presence off the court was felt after he fouled out with 2:47 left. Before he left, Groskreutz sparked the overtime rally with a dunk and triple. UNLV closed the gap with a pair of Anthony Marshall free throws, a three-ball from freshman Katin Reinhardt, and one of two from Justin Hawkins at the stripe. After a missed jumper, the Rebels drove to the key and found Carlos Lopez-Sosa open for his only bucket of the game. A last heave from behind the arc by De'Quan Thompson bounced off the rim to protect the UNLV win. Led my Mike Moser, the Rebels opened a 47-30 lead at the half. Length and athleticism led to 11 UNLV steals, resulting in 15 first-half points. Dixie State turned up the offensive intensity in the second half cutting into the halftime deficit with a 9-0 run. A Marshall three bumped the Rebels lead back to 10, 57-47, with 11:45 before Dixie made another push. Massey scored eight straight points, then Groskreutz put DSC ahead for the first time since early in the first half with a three-ball, 65-63. Massey extended the lead to five draining another three. UNLV used a late push and held a two-point lead with six seconds left. Groskreutz drove the floor to draw a foul in the final second. The junior calmly drained the two freebies. Marshall catapulted a shot from the DSC three-point line and had the ball rattle around the hoop before falling to the floor for overtime.Zach Robbins (Upland, CA/Upland) (Upland, CA/Upland) corralled nine rebounds and Steven Larson (South Jordan, UT/Copper Hills) (South Jordan, UT/Copper Hills) had all eight of his points after halftime.
