ST. GEORGE – Despite holding a 20-8 advantage in shots, the Dixie State men's soccer team was unable to find the net until late and a pair of goals in each half from the visiting Cougars proved to be the difference as the Red Storm fell in their season finale 4-1 to Azusa Pacific on Saturday evening at Hansen Stadium.

“This match was similar to last week's,” DSC head coach Danny Ortiz said. “We had plenty of looks but could not get one in.”

Led by five shots from Eric Shallenberger and four more from senior Francisco Rivero (Paramount, CA/Paramount), the Red Storm outshot the Cougars in each half (8-4 and 12-4), but Joe Geletko made eight saves on nine shots on goal. Dixie State also had the edge in corner kicks, 6-5, including four opportunities in the final 20 minutes.

Shallenberger netted his goal in the 83rd minute inside the left post off a crossing shot from Eric Christensen (Layton, UT/Layton).

Azusa Pacific (12-5-1, 10-4 PWC) enjoyed a 2-0 halftime lead and increased the advantage to 4-0 behind a four-point day by Carlos Garcia Partida (one goal, two assists).

Tyler Albretsen (Pleasant View, UT/Weber), joining Rivero as senior playing for the last time at Hansen, blasted three shots.

Dixie State closed the 2012 campaign with an overall record of 5-10-2 and finished with a 4-8-2 mark in the PacWest.
